Researching the development of graphic designer, Lester Beall’s career and philosophies as well as the conditions that shaped his aesthetic- my research led to my decision to create I decided to create a book influence by his style and informed by his mediums.
Inspired by his many years of commercial work, I chose to make the book newspaper size, but design it similar to a contemporary zine style. Using photomontage, as Lester did to unite art, photography, and typography, I used it to unite parts of his career and life.
Printing turned out to be an obstacle in this project, I learned how to work quickly implementing a plan B. This project also helped me see outside my own design brain, and pushed me to create compositions I’ve never explored before.
