Raquel Scoggin

I get down with all sorts of creative projects. I’m a true crafter at heart, and I love getting my hands dirty. Technically, I’m a pretty good brand and digital designer, and I can help you with that. Want to hand make dinner plates? Let's do it. Need to throw up a tarp to stay out of the rain? Let me look up some knots real quick. I like to help however I can. We’re all in this together, and I hope my passing through might just help you.

Identity design for Embedded: Buffalo Extreme, an NPR series giving voice to a Black cheer team living in the shadow of a supermarket shooting.

What happens after a racist mass shooting in your neighborhood? On May 14, 2022, the world changed for residents of Buffalo, New York, when a white man opened fire at a Tops supermarket, killing ten and injuring three, almost all Black. Around the corner, teenagers and children from a Black cheer team called BASE were at their gym. Buffalo Extreme is their story — a three part series where NPR hands the mic to the girls, their moms, and their coaches as they navigate the path to recovery in the year after.

The design system reflects that duality: bold silhouettes of athletes in motion layered with images of memorials and community solidarity. Campaign elements spanned podcast tiles, banners, and digital assets, creating a visual language that balances strength with vulnerability and honors the resilience of a team and community living through unimaginable loss.
